Pure Kashmiri Mongra Saffron quality check

How We Ensure Every Batch of Our Pure Kashmiri Saffron Is Genuine

"Pure saffron" isn't a claim we make lightly, so it's worth explaining exactly what happens between a Pampore field and a pack of our Mongra Saffron reaching your door.

1. Direct Sourcing From Growers

We source directly from saffron growers in Pampore rather than through layers of bulk distributors, which keeps the supply chain short and traceable back to a specific harvest rather than an anonymous mixed batch.

2. Visual Grading

Each batch is visually inspected for thread colour, shape, and the proportion of red stigma to yellow style — the core markers that separate mongra grade from lower grades. Threads with excessive yellow content or inconsistent colour are set aside rather than blended in to bulk up quantity.

3. The Water Test

A simple but telling check: genuine saffron releases colour gradually into warm water over several minutes. Batches are periodically checked this way to confirm the colour release behaviour matches what's expected of pure, undyed saffron — instant, overly intense colour release would be a red flag for added colourant.

4. Aroma Check

Saffron's distinct honey-hay aroma is one of the harder characteristics to fake convincingly. Batches are checked for this aroma directly, since weak or off-smelling saffron often signals age, poor storage, or adulteration further up the supply chain.

5. Sealed, Light-Blocking Packaging

Once graded and approved, saffron is packed in sealed, light-blocking containers to protect the compounds responsible for colour and aroma from degrading before it reaches you — quality control doesn't stop once the product passes inspection; it continues through how it's packaged.

Why We Explain This At All

"Pure" and "authentic" are words every saffron seller uses. We'd rather actually walk through what we do to back that claim up, rather than ask you to take it on faith.

See the Result

Every batch of our Kashmiri Mongra Saffron goes through this process before it's listed — deep colour, genuine mongra grade, and packaging built to preserve what makes it worth buying in the first place.
