"Ruby cotton" shows up in our coordset descriptions, but it's not a marketing term we made up — it refers to a specific, finer weave of cotton that behaves noticeably differently from the standard cotton used in most everyday clothing.

What Makes Ruby Cotton Different

Ruby cotton is woven from finer, longer cotton fibres than typical mass-market cotton, resulting in a smoother hand-feel and a lighter, more breathable fabric. Standard cotton, particularly cheaper blends, often uses shorter, coarser fibres that create a heavier, less breathable weave.

Why It Matters for a Coordset

A co-ord set lives or dies on how it drapes and breathes — unlike a single garment, both pieces need to move well together without clinging or losing shape through a warm day. Ruby cotton's lighter weave holds a crisper shape without feeling stiff, and breathes better than heavier cotton blends, which matters more in a two-piece set worn for extended periods in warm weather.

Feel and Care

Ruby cotton has a noticeably smoother, almost silky surface texture compared to standard cotton, without needing any synthetic blending to achieve it. Caring for Ruby Cotton

Machine wash cold with similar colours, avoid high heat when drying (air drying or low heat preserves the fabric's softness longest), and iron on a moderate setting if needed — ruby cotton doesn't need special handling, just the same care you'd give any good-quality cotton garment.

Why Not Just Use Regular Cotton?

Regular cotton would work, technically — but it would feel heavier, breathe less well, and likely show print detail less crisply. Given that a coordset is meant to be an easy, breathable summer staple, the fabric choice isn't incidental; it's part of what makes the finished piece actually pleasant to wear for a full day.
